Thanks to Taylor Swift and her infamous Eras Tour, we’re all contemplating what our coined “era” is going to look like in 2024. I’m declaring mine to be the year of abundance!
For quite a few years now, I’ve stepped away from the traditional hype of resolutions and have started adopting a New Year’s intention instead. I love doing this! It feels much softer, aligned, and ultimately more empowering than stressing about all the goals I want to achieve at the stroke of midnight.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a goals girl! I love pushing myself outside my comfort zone and reaching for new heights…but in realistic, incremental ways. With resolutions, it felt like I was quickly burning out by setting too many goals, with too little strategy, and a whole lot of pressure to make it all happen overnight. Maybe you can relate?
If you’ve read my new book, Making It Happen, you’ll know that’s not at all how it actually happens. The day you plant the seed is not the same day you eat the fruit! Transformation requires a whole process. And the “process” is the best part! This is where you learn about yourself, test your resilience, and find new passions and perspectives. So why would we want to skip over all this amazing growth? I sure don’t!
Speaking of the “process”, the majority of goal achievement has to do with mindset. There will be challenges, there will be moments where you’ll feel like giving up, or think you’re crazy for even starting in the first place. These are the greatest opportunities to expand your limits of possibility. The more you can live in the moment and appreciate what’s in front of you, the less fear and scarcity you’ll feel. It’s much easier said than done, I know…but it works! I mention in the book how challenging it was when I first started my business as a single mom, living in a cottage on my parent’s farm, working multiple jobs to barely make ends meet. Knowing that I was one client away from making rent each month was an incredible motivator to take action on my goals. Having a why behind the goal (aka providing a good life for my daughter and helping others overcome similar credit struggles to the ones I faced) was the fuel that kept my fire going when circumstances felt impossible.
All to say, ABUNDANCE is a mindset. Too often it gets categorized as a financial term. But as the saying goes “some people are so poor that all they have is money.” Because money is not the standard for happiness or the feeling of true abundance, it’s just the cherry on top! True abundance is an inside job, a state of being. And it’s one that I want to cultivate deeper in the New Year. What about you?
Here are a few ways that I plan to embody more abundance in 2024…
- Recognize the richness in every moment.
In every single moment, there’s so much to be thankful for. The simple things we often take for granted like a warm home, food on the table, amazing friends, loving family, fresh air, and clean water, to name a few, are everyday riches that enhance our lives. Part of my practice in the New Year will be to show gratitude each day for these blessings!
- Cultivate a mindset of plenty.
An abundance mindset isn’t attached to anything outside of ourselves. Have you ever found yourself stressed about money and saying, “I’ll feel better when I have X dollars in the bank?” I’ve been there! And I know many others who have too. The truth is it didn’t matter how much money was in the bank when I had a scarcity mindset. It always felt like there was never enough. TRUST is a big part of overcoming scarcity and cultivating a mindset of plenty. Staying present, instead of living in mistakes of the past or desires of the future, will also help keep you grounded. In the New Year, I’m going to focus on staying present.
- Prioritize health, joy, and meaningful connections.
Without our health, we cannot show up as the best version of ourselves. Without joy, no goal will ever feel worth it. And without connections, the journey will be lonely. That’s why these three elements are topping my chart of abundance essentials! In the New Year, I commit to nourishing my mind and body, consistently planning fun adventures, and staying in touch with those I love most (and who make life oh so much fun!).
I’d love to hear what your intention for 2024 is! Reach out and let me know and let’s support each other’s journeys. Wishing you a healthy, happy, and abundant New Year. Cheers!
